"Make strategic use of algebraic structure, the properties of operations, and/or reasoning about equality to solve: • linear absolute value equations in one variable or simple rational and radical equations in one variable." "Given an equation or formula in two or more variables, view it as an equation in a single variable of interest where the other variables are parameters, and solve for the variable of interest."

What you'll learn

  1. Solve a rational equation by writing its excluded values first, multiplying every term by the LCD, and rejecting any candidate on the exclusion list, reporting no solution when every candidate is excluded
  2. Find every excluded value by setting each denominator to zero, factoring first where needed
  3. Solve a proportion by cross-multiplication, and explain it as the LCD step in one line
  4. Distinguish the contradiction, identity and excluded-candidate outcomes after clearing denominators
  5. Solve a formula containing the target variable in a denominator
