What you'll learn

  1. Simplify, multiply, divide, add and subtract rational expressions, stating the excluded values of the result
  2. Explain cancellation as multiplication by a factor equal to 1, and identify when nothing cancels
  3. State excluded values from the original denominators, including one hidden by a cancelled factor or created by a divisor's numerator
  4. Add and subtract rational expressions using the LCD built from factored denominators
  5. Simplify a compound fraction by treating the main fraction bar as division
  6. Distinguish rewriting an expression from solving an equation, and explain why denominators may not be cleared in an expression
