ACT Math
Lesson Plan
Complex conjugates
Goals / Objectives
Divide two complex numbers and write the quotient in standard form a + bi, by multiplying numerator and denominator by the conjugate of the denominator
Write the conjugate of any complex number, including the pure-imaginary and purely-real cases
Compute (a+bi)(a-bi) = a^2 + b^2 and explain why the result is real and non-negative
Give the conjugate-pair roots of a real-coefficient quadratic with negative discriminant, including the second root when one is given
Standards
"N 704. Apply properties of complex numbers and the complex number system" "N 606. Multiply two complex numbers" "N 504. Exhibit some knowledge of the complex numbers"
