"Apply knowledge that changing by a scale factor of k changes all lengths by a factor of k, changes all areas by a factor of k^2, and changes all volumes by a factor of k^3."

"Apply knowledge that changing by a scale factor of k changes all lengths by a factor of k, changes all areas by a factor of k^2, and changes all volumes by a factor of k^3."
What you'll learn
- Find how a figure's area and volume change when every linear dimension is scaled by a factor k (area by k^2, volume by k^3, whether k is above or below 1), and explain why from area and volume as products of two and three lengths
- Tell full scaling from partial scaling: when only some dimensions change, find the effect by substituting into the formula rather than applying k^2 or k^3
- Work backward from an area or volume ratio to find the linear scale factor
