Lesson Plan
Interpreting exponential functions in context
Goals / Objectives
Interpret an exponential or quadratic model in its situation, stating what a parameter, input/output pair, point, interval or feature means as a sentence with units and a time reference
Interpret a and b of a·bˣ as the initial value and the per-period multiplier, converting b to a percent change in words
Interpret points and intervals of a labelled graph, and explain why constant percent growth produces increasing absolute growth
Interpret the vertex and intercepts of a quadratic model as quantities in the situation, choosing a form that displays a requested feature without computation
State why a model's valid domain can be narrower than its algebraic domain
Standards
"For a quadratic or exponential function that represents a context: • interpret the meaning of an input/output pair including an intercept or initial value, including situations where seeing structure provides an advantage." "• interpret the meaning of a constant, variable, factor, or term based on the context, including situations where seeing structure provides an advantage." "For a quadratic or exponential function in a context: • interpret parts of the graph (other than a point or intercept)." "• interpret a point on the graph." "Make connections between a table, an algebraic representation, or a graph of a: • quadratic or exponential function that does not involve a transformation, in a context."
