ACT Math

Lesson Plan

Graphs of sin, cos, tan (amplitude, period, phase shift)

Goals / Objectives

Sketch the base graphs of y = sin(x), y = cos(x), and y = tan(x) by plotting key points (intercepts, maxima, minima, asymptotes)

Identify amplitude, period, phase shift, and vertical shift from the general form y = A sin(Bx + C) + D (and analogous cos/tan forms)

Graph a transformed sinusoidal function by applying changes to amplitude, period, phase shift, and vertical shift systematically

Read a graph to determine its amplitude, period, midline, and phase shift

Write an equation in the form y = A sin(Bx + C) + D (or cos equivalent) that matches a given graph

Standards

F 705. Match graphs of basic trigonometric functions with their equations F 704. Exhibit knowledge of unit circle trigonometry
