G 511. Find the midpoint of a line segment
G 510. Determine the slope of a line from points or a graph
G 605. Use the distance formula
What you'll learn
- Compute the midpoint of a segment given both endpoints, using M = ((x_1+x_2)/2, (y_1+y_2)/2)
- Explain why averaging each pair of coordinates separately lands on the point halfway along the segment
- Find the missing endpoint when one endpoint and the midpoint are given, by solving two one-variable equations
- Use the midpoint to locate the center of a circle from the endpoints of a diameter, and to decide whether a given point bisects a segment
- Distinguish a midpoint question from a distance question by what the stem asks for, and state which operation each requires
