Lesson Plan
Midpoint formula
Goals / Objectives
Compute the midpoint of a segment given both endpoints, using M = ((x_1+x_2)/2, (y_1+y_2)/2)
Explain why averaging each pair of coordinates separately lands on the point halfway along the segment
Find the missing endpoint when one endpoint and the midpoint are given, by solving two one-variable equations
Use the midpoint to locate the center of a circle from the endpoints of a diameter, and to decide whether a given point bisects a segment
Distinguish a midpoint question from a distance question by what the stem asks for, and state which operation each requires
Standards
G 511. Find the midpoint of a line segment G 510. Determine the slope of a line from points or a graph G 605. Use the distance formula
