- Lesson Plan →Objectives, pacing and practice, built from this lesson's brief.
- Guided Notes →One page your students fill in and keep.
- Exit Ticket →Three items at the end of class. No student accounts.
- Re-teach →After an exit ticket: who missed what, and what to do tomorrow.
- Homework →Assign practice; it grades itself.
"Make strategic use of algebraic structure, the properties of operations, and reasoning about equality to solve systems of linear and nonlinear equations in two variables."
"Relate the solutions of a system of a linear and a nonlinear equation in two variables to the graphs of the equations in the system."
"Determine the conditions under which a quadratic equation has no real solutions, one real solution, or two real solutions."

What you'll learn
- Solve a system of one linear and one nonlinear equation by substitution, rearranging the linear equation first when necessary and reporting every solution as an ordered pair
- Relate the number of solutions — zero, one or two — to the intersection points of the two graphs, and identify the tangency case
- Determine the number of solutions by computing the discriminant of the substituted equation, without solving it
- Solve for an unknown coefficient given a stated number of intersection points
