ACT Math
Lesson Plan
Parallel and perpendicular line slopes
Goals / Objectives
Write the equation of the line through a given point parallel or perpendicular to a given line, using equal slopes for parallel and the negative reciprocal for perpendicular
Explain the perpendicular relationship $m_1 m_2 = -1$ from a quarter-turn rotation, state its precondition, and explain why a horizontal and a vertical line are perpendicular although their slope product is not $-1$
Classify a pair of linear equations given in mixed forms as parallel, perpendicular, neither, or the same line written two ways
Use a parallel or perpendicular condition to solve for an unknown coefficient and to find the perpendicular bisector of a segment
