ACT Math
Lesson Plan
Slope-intercept, point-slope, and standard forms
Goals / Objectives
Write the equation of a line in slope-intercept, point-slope or standard form from a slope and a point, two points, or a graph, and convert it among the three forms
Read the slope and $y$-intercept from an equation (the coefficient of $x$ in slope-intercept form, $-A/B$ in standard form) and use them to match the equation to its graph
Write the equation of a horizontal or vertical line ($y = k$ or $x = h$), and explain from the equation which way the line runs
Choose the form of a linear equation that reaches what a question asks for in the fewest steps
Standards
A 406. Exhibit knowledge of slope (Algebra, 20–23)
A 514. Determine the slope of a line from an equation (Algebra, 24–27)
G 510. Determine the slope of a line from points or a graph (Geometry, 24–27) — context only; owned by act-geo-coord-slope, not an anchor of this brief
AF 503. Match linear equations with their graphs in the coordinate plane (Algebra/Functions, 24–27)
