"A 604. Solve systems of two linear equations"

What you'll learn

  1. Use the determinant `ad - bc` of a `2x2` matrix to decide whether the matrix has an inverse and, when it does, construct that inverse
  2. Compute `det(A) = ad - bc`, including matrices with negative entries, reading `|A|` as the determinant rather than an absolute value
  3. Explain why a determinant of zero means no inverse exists, and give "no inverse" as the answer in that case
  4. Construct the inverse of an invertible `2x2` matrix by swapping, sign-flipping, and scaling by `1/det(A)`
