F 707. Exhibit knowledge of logarithms
AF 703. Analyze and draw conclusions based on properties of algebra and/or functions

What you'll learn

  1. State the product, quotient, and power properties of logarithms with a common base
  2. Derive each property from the corresponding exponent law, rather than recalling it
  3. Expand a single logarithm of a product, quotient, or power into a sum, difference, or multiple
  4. Condense a sum, difference, or multiple of logarithms into a single logarithm
  5. Identify expressions where no property applies — in particular $\log(x+y)$ and $(\log x)(\log y)$ — and say why
