6.SP.B.4 Tutor Intake -- Dot Plots, Histograms, Box Plots
This short check helps your tutor see where to start. Work on your own,
without a calculator. If you're unsure, give your best try — the goal is
to find what to work on together, not to grade you.
Concepts
A dot plot places one dot above each data value on a number
line, stacking duplicates. What is true about a dot plot that is
NOT true about a histogram of the same data?
Procedures
A data set has these values: 51, 52, 53, 55, 56, 57, 58, 59, 60,
62. Using bins of width 5 starting at 50 — [50, 55), [55, 60),
[60, 65) — how many values fall into the bin [55, 60)?
Find Q1 (the first quartile) for this ordered data set of 9
values: 2, 4, 5, 7, 9, 10, 12, 14, 16.
(Use the exclude-median convention: for an odd count, the
overall median is excluded from both halves before finding each
half's median.)
