The Important Rule About Remainders

The remainder must ALWAYS be less than the divisor!

  • 17 ÷ 5 = 3 r 2 (2 < 5)
  • 20 ÷ 6 = 3 r 2 (2 < 6)
  • 25 ÷ 7 = 3 r 4 (4 < 7)

If remainder ≥ divisor, divide once more!
