Lesson Plan

Angle of Rotation and Angular Velocity

Goals / Objectives

Define rotational motion, circular motion, and spin, and give examples of each

Relate arc length, radius of curvature, and angle of rotation using Δθ = Δs/r

Convert among radians, revolutions, and degrees (1 rev = 2π rad = 360°)

Define angular velocity ω = Δθ/Δt and relate it to tangential velocity using v = rω

Solve problems involving angle of rotation, angular velocity, and tangential velocity

Standards

6.1

"Rotational motion is the circular motion of an object about an axis of rotation." "The angle of rotation $\Delta\theta$ is the arc length divided by the radius of curvature." "1 revolution = $2\pi$ rad = 360°." "The equation $v = r\omega$ says that the tangential speed v is proportional to the distance r from the center of rotation."
