Common Core Math - Kindergarten

Lesson Plan

Compose and decompose numbers from 11 to 19 into ten ones and some further ones

Goals / Objectives

Represent any number from 11 to 19 as a group of ten ones and some additional ones using physical objects

Decompose a teen number into ten ones and some further ones (e.g., 14 is 10 and 4)

Compose a teen number by combining ten ones with additional ones (e.g., 10 + 6 = 16)

Record a composition or decomposition using a drawing or equation (e.g., 18 = 10 + 8)

Explain in their own words that every teen number is made of "ten and some more"

Standards

K.NBT.A.1

K.NBT.A.1: Compose and decompose numbers from 11 to 19 into ten ones and some further ones, e.g., by using objects or drawings, and record each composition or decomposition by a drawing or equation (e.g., 18 = 10 + 8); understand that these numbers are composed of ten ones and one, two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight, or nine ones.
