Common Core Math - HS Statistics and Probability

Lesson Plan

Use permutations and combinations to compute probabilities

Goals / Objectives

Apply the Fundamental Counting Principle to count the outcomes of a multi-stage process

Distinguish situations where order matters (permutations) from those where it does not (combinations)

Compute permutations, nPr = n! / (n - r)!, and combinations, nCr = n! / (r!(n - r)!)

Use permutations and combinations to count favorable and total outcomes and compute probabilities of compound events

Solve real-world counting and probability problems, such as lotteries, committees, and arrangements
