Common Core Math - HS Geometry

Lesson Plan

Construct regular polygons in circle

Goals / Objectives

Construct an equilateral triangle inscribed in a given circle using compass and straightedge

Construct a square inscribed in a given circle using compass and straightedge

Construct a regular hexagon inscribed in a given circle using compass and straightedge

Explain the geometric properties that make each construction work, including why the radius of a circle equals the side length of an inscribed regular hexagon

Identify the relationships among the three inscribed polygons and describe how the equilateral triangle is derived from the hexagon
