Common Core Math - HS Geometry

Lesson Plan

Describe transformation effects

Goals / Objectives

Define symmetry as a transformation that maps a figure onto itself

Identify all rotational symmetries of a given rectangle, parallelogram, trapezoid, or regular polygon

Identify all lines of reflective symmetry for a given rectangle, parallelogram, trapezoid, or regular polygon

Describe symmetries using precise transformation language (angle of rotation, line of reflection)

Explain why certain figures have more symmetries than others based on their geometric properties

Standards

HSG.CO.A.3

HSG.CO.A.3: Given a rectangle, parallelogram, trapezoid, or regular polygon, describe the rotations and reflections that carry it onto itself.
