Lesson Plan

Graph polynomial functions

Goals / Objectives

Identify the zeros (x-intercepts) of a polynomial function from a factored form and plot them on the coordinate plane

Determine the end behavior of a polynomial from the degree and leading coefficient

Describe and graph the effect of zero multiplicity: crossing at odd multiplicity, touching (bouncing) at even multiplicity

Sketch a rough graph of a polynomial using zeros, end behavior, and multiplicity behavior as structural anchors

Use technology to graph polynomials when factoring is not feasible and identify key features from the technology display

Determine the maximum number of turning points for a polynomial of degree n (at most n - 1)

Standards
