Common Core Math - Grade 7
Lesson Plan
Describe the two-dimensional figures that result from slicing three-dimensional figures
Goals / Objectives
Define a cross-section as the 2D figure formed when a plane intersects a 3D solid
Identify and name the cross-sections formed by horizontal, vertical, and diagonal plane cuts of a right rectangular prism
Identify and name the cross-sections formed by horizontal and vertical plane cuts of a right rectangular pyramid
Predict the cross-section shape of a given cut before visualizing or verifying it
Explain why the angle and position of the cutting plane determines the shape of the cross-section
Standards
7.G.A.3
7.G.A.3 -- Describe the two-dimensional figures that result from slicing three-dimensional figures, as in plane sections of right rectangular prisms and right rectangular pyramids.
