Common Core Math - Grade 3

Lesson Plan

Interpret products of whole numbers

Goals / Objectives

Explain that a multiplication expression such as 5 x 7 means "5 groups of 7 objects" and state the total number of objects

Create or identify equal groups of objects that match a given multiplication expression

Describe a real-world situation that can be represented by a given multiplication expression (e.g., describe a context for 5 x 7)

Translate between repeated addition expressions and multiplication expressions (e.g., 7 + 7 + 7 + 7 + 7 = 5 x 7)

Represent a multiplication expression using an array and connect the rows or columns to the "groups of" interpretation

Standards

3.OA.A.1
