ACT Math

Lesson Plan

Vector notation, addition, subtraction, scalar multiplication

Goals / Objectives

Find a resultant displacement or net force by adding, subtracting, and scaling vectors in component form, choosing the operation a problem's wording calls for

Write a vector in component form <a, b> from a diagram, from two endpoints, or from a verbal description, and distinguish the vector <3, 4> from the point (3, 4)

Add and subtract vectors componentwise and draw each result tip-to-tail, including u - v as the arrow from the tip of v to the tip of u

Multiply a vector by a scalar, stating separately what happens to its length and to its direction, and evaluate a linear combination such as 2u - 3v

Standards

"N 607. Use relations involving addition, subtraction, and scalar multiplication of vectors and of matrices" "N 701. Analyze and draw conclusions based on number concepts"
