Draw polygons in the coordinate plane given coordinates for the vertices
Draw polygons in the coordinate plane given coordinates for the vertices; use coordinates to find the length of a side joining points with the same first coordinate or the same second coordinate. Apply these techniques in the context of solving real-world and mathematical problems.

What you'll learn
- Plot a polygon's vertices in any of the four quadrants and connect consecutive vertices in order to draw the polygon.
- Identify each side of a coordinate-plane polygon as horizontal (same y-coordinates), vertical (same x-coordinates), or slanted.
- Compute the length of a horizontal segment as the absolute difference of the x-coordinates of its endpoints, and a vertical segment as the absolute difference of the y-coordinates.
- Compute the perimeter of a rectilinear polygon (all horizontal or vertical sides) by summing the side lengths.
- Compute the area of a coordinate-plane rectangle, an L-shape or other rectilinear polygon (by decomposition from 6.G.A.1), and a right triangle with horizontal and vertical legs.
- Recognize that this lesson's coordinate-difference tool does not apply to slanted sides; the slanted-side length is a later-grade topic.
- Solve real-world problems on a coordinate grid (city blocks, floor plans, gardens, sports fields), computing distances or areas and applying units appropriately.
