Common Core Math - HS Statistics and Probability

Lesson Plan

Fit a function to data

Goals / Objectives

Choose an appropriate model family - linear, quadratic, or exponential - from a scatter plot's form and the context

Fit a function either by using a function the context supplies or by running a regression with technology

Use a fitted function to predict values and solve contextual problems, stating answers with units

Distinguish interpolation from extrapolation and recognize when a prediction is unreliable

Standards

HSS.ID.B.6.a

HSS.ID.B.6.a: Fit a function to the data; use functions fitted to data to solve problems in the context of the data. Use given functions or choose a function suggested by the context. Emphasize linear, quadratic, and exponential models.
