Identify when a quadratic equation with real coefficients has complex (non-real) solutions using the discriminant.
Apply the quadratic formula to obtain complex solutions in a + bi form.
Recognize that complex solutions to real-coefficient quadratics always appear as conjugate pairs.
Verify complex solutions by substitution.
