Common Core Math - HS Geometry

Lesson Plan

Identify cross sections

Goals / Objectives

Identify the shapes of two-dimensional cross-sections produced by slicing standard three-dimensional objects (cylinders, cones, spheres, prisms, pyramids) with a plane

Predict how the cross-section shape changes depending on the orientation and position of the slicing plane

Identify the three-dimensional solid generated by rotating a given two-dimensional shape about an axis

Sketch the 2D shape whose rotation would produce a given solid of revolution

Connect cross-sectional thinking to volume computation and real-world applications such as medical imaging and manufacturing
