Common Core Math - Grade 6

Lesson Plan

Display numerical data in plots on a number line

Goals / Objectives

Construct a dot plot from a small numerical data set, with every value placed correctly on the number line.

Construct a histogram from a numerical data set by choosing equal-width bins, tallying counts, and drawing bars whose heights represent counts.

Compute the five-number summary (minimum, Q1, median, Q3, maximum) of a data set and use it to construct a box plot.

Read center, spread, and shape from each plot type.

Choose the most informative plot type for a given data set, given the size of the data set and the question being investigated.
