Explain that grouping symbols -- parentheses, brackets, and braces -- indicate which part of an expression to evaluate first

Evaluate a numerical expression containing one set of grouping symbols by computing the grouped part before the rest

Recognize that the same numbers arranged with different grouping yield different values

Evaluate expressions with nested grouping symbols by working from the innermost group outward

Write a numerical expression using appropriate grouping symbols to match a described calculation or a given target value
