Common Core Math - Grade 5

Lesson Plan

Represent real world and mathematical problems by graphing points in the first quadrant of the coordinate plane

Goals / Objectives

Plot ordered pairs in the first quadrant of the coordinate plane given a real-world or mathematical context

Read and identify the coordinates of a point already plotted on the coordinate plane

Interpret the meaning of each coordinate in context (e.g., explain that the point (3, 12) on a cost graph means "3 items cost $12")

Generate ordered pairs from a rule or input/output table and plot them on a coordinate plane

Use a coordinate graph to answer questions about a real-world situation (e.g., "How far had the car traveled after 4 hours?")

Connect coordinate graphing to pattern relationships by plotting ordered pairs that follow a given rule

5.G.A.2: Represent real world and mathematical problems by graphing points in the first quadrant of the coordinate plane, and interpret coordinate values of points in the context of the situation.
