ACT Math
Lesson Plan
Reciprocal trig functions (csc, sec, cot)
Goals / Objectives
Define the three reciprocal trigonometric functions and state their relationship to sin, cos, and tan
Express csc, sec, and cot as ratios of right-triangle sides (hyp/opp, hyp/adj, adj/opp)
Evaluate csc, sec, and cot for standard angles (30, 45, 60 degrees), rationalizing denominators as needed
Simplify expressions and verify identities involving reciprocal trig functions
Solve ACT-format multiple-choice problems involving reciprocal trig functions
Standards
F 706. Use trigonometric concepts and basic identities to solve problems G 509. Express the sine, cosine, and tangent of an angle in a right triangle as a ratio of given side lengths
