ACT Math
Lesson Plan
Volume of prisms, cylinders, pyramids, cones, spheres
Goals / Objectives
Compute the volume of right prisms (rectangular, triangular, hexagonal) and cylinders using V = Bh
Compute the volume of pyramids and cones using V = 1/3 Bh
Compute the volume of spheres using V = 4/3 pir^3
Identify which volume formula applies given a figure's name, description, or diagram
Solve ACT-style problems that require finding a dimension (e.g., the height of a triangular base) before applying the volume formula
Standards
G 405. Use geometric formulas when all necessary information is given G 601. Use relationships involving area, perimeter, and volume of geometric figures to compute another measure (e.g., surface area for a cube of a given volume and simple geometric probability) G 705. Solve multistep geometry problems that involve integrating concepts, planning, and/or visualization
