ACT Math
Lesson Plan
Cross-sections of solids
Goals / Objectives
Define a cross-section as the 2D shape formed when a plane cuts through a 3D solid
Identify the cross-section produced by horizontal, vertical, and diagonal cuts through rectangular prisms, cylinders, cones, pyramids, and spheres
Recognize how changing the angle or position of the cutting plane changes the resulting cross-section
Identify which 3D solid results from rotating a given 2D shape around a specified axis
Solve ACT-style problems that ask for the shape of a cross-section or the solid generated by a rotation
Standards
G 702. Compute the area of composite geometric figures when planning and/or visualization is required G 705. Solve multistep geometry problems that involve integrating concepts, planning, and/or visualization
